ANTHY
Lyric Drama in three Acts
The lyric drama in three acts “Anthy”, the last chronologically of the three works of Maffeis having been completed in 1937, has as its source the homonymous novel by Guido Milanesi, prolific and popular author of novels of maritime adventures set often on the eastern and southern coasts of the Mediterranean. The work stages the tragic love between a Greek girl and an Italian lieutenant of a vessel in Rhodes during the Italian-Turkish conflict; choirs and songs in military and oriental settings frame the story. The volume is divided into four files, one for each act of the orchestral score and one for the complete score, also realized by the composer, as with all the other theatrical works. In each libretto, the text precedes the musical score.
