THE THREE CHILDREN IN THE FIERY FURNACE
Operetta in three acts
It is the second operetta in chronological order, performed for the first time on the 26 November1939 in Abbiategrasso and repeated several times thereafter. Don Ambrogio Palestra, author of the text, writes that “it was in fact performed in different places and we had the satisfaction of seeing with certainty that we had accomplished an apostolic work”. The libretto stages the well-known account narrated in the Book of the Prophet Daniel of the three children condemned to be burned in the furnace and miraculously saved by an angel.
Like the Danish Singer it is the most musically and scenically developed work; following this, Maffeis reused some pages from this score, in particular the Preghiera became the second part of the Tre momenti for flute and piano or strings (Vol. III).
