I MORTULAGHI
Operetta in three acts
Some of the operettas of Ambrogio Palestra have historical subject matter, even if the real situations are enriched with fantasy details. “The Mortulaghi” are the dead of the various Corsican insurrection wars that, according to the legend, appeared in the form of ghosts invoked in dramatic moments by the inhabitants of the island. The operetta has as its subtitle “The Song of the Fatherland – Patriotic Scenes in three acts”; written during the years of the second world war, it has never been performed. This was probably due to the subject, linked to little known events. The orchestral score is also more demanding than usual.
